Washington, September 28, 2001 - U.S. Department of Agriculture Inspector General Roger C. Viadero today announced his retirement from Federal service effective October 3, 2001. Viadero will join the accounting firm of Ernst & Young as the National Practice Leader in charge of the Forensic, Regulatory, and Agriculture Dispute Practice.
Viadero is proud of the accomplishments his employees have achieved since his appointment in October of 1994. Under his leadership, he effected changes in legislation impacting on Welfare Reform, Electronic Benefits Transfer, Rural Rental Housing, Crop Disaster Assistance Program, and Asset Forfeiture for USDA offenses. These changes have enhanced the integrity and accountability of USDA programs.
Viadero has 32 years of public service, 7 years of which he served as Inspector General for USDA. Prior to his appointment as IG, Viadero served with the Federal Bureau of Investigation from January 1979 until October 1994, and with the New York City Police Department from 1969 to 1979.
